Out of All the Fertility Clinics Out There…How Do You Know Which One is Right for You?
For a couple wanting a child, choosing the right fertility clinics will be the single most important decision they will make. From your initial diagnosis, the challenges range from financing the cost of infertility treatments to effectively managing the physical and emotional demands. The quality of the fertility clinics you review and the quality of those reproductive specialists working within them is of utmost importance.
When many couples research fertility clinics, reproductive specialists, and especially infertility doctors, they get overwhelmed with information. At CORM, we want our patients empowered and educated. The journey isn’t easy, but at the Center of Reproductive Medicine, it will be the experience you deserve.
When Researching Fertility Clinics, Be Sure to Measure:
- Competency: You can measure an infertility clinic’s competency by looking at the years of experience among the practitioners, the years the organization has existed within the community, the credentials of the practitioners within the organization, the practice’s success rates as reported by The Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) or the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and your impression of the staff you encounter over the phone or over email.
- Experience: Fertility clinics that employ infertility doctors with experience offer an advantage. The advantage is that infertility doctors with some time under their belt have seen and done it all and honed their skills. It is still up to you to maximize the appointments by asking relevant questions and participating fully in your plan of care.
- Longevity: The years an infertility clinic has been established can be important. With some inquiry in the community, you can get an honest picture of their strengths, weaknesses, and successes. At times, you may see an office that pops up overnight in random spaces, but without any substantial service in that community, it can be difficult to get accurate feedback.
- Credentials: The credentials of the practitioners within the organization also lend to that practitioners’ competency. Board certified is always a good thing, and if they don’t have a specialization in reproductive endocrinology, they should have substantial experience in the administration of female and male fertility test practices. Remember to also inquire about the credentials of the other employees you will have significant contact with - for instance, the lab director who will be responsible for handling embryos and semen analysis samples, nurse practitioners they have on staff, and certified RN’s and LVN’s.
Remember, when researching fertility clinics and making a selection, take your time and put in the due diligence. We want you to know that, at CORM, we welcome your questions and we want you to feel comfortable with your decisions. Call us today to set up a consultation.
What You Can Expect From Fertility Clinics
[Posted on January 30]
If you are a couple who have been trying unsuccessfully to conceive and have been examined by your respective physicians, you may want to seek additional help with conception and pregnancy. If you have had several miscarriages or you are over 35, then you, in all likelihood, will require the services of a physician whose specialty is in the area of infertility. There are fertility clinics staffed with highly qualified experts who can offer advice and testing and can provide you with an overview of the various treatment options at your disposal.
A clinic will have fertility doctors and support personnel who are highly trained and who specialize in infertility diagnosis and treatment. They will provide a fertility evaluation and make recommendations based on the results. Both males and females are tested for fertility problems. Analysis has shown that fertility troubles can be attributed to males as much as a third of the time. The male will typically undergo semen collection for a customary diagnostic test to either establish or rule out problems with his semen quality. Females tend to require multiple tests, including ovulation analysis to determine if infertility is present.
Before choosing one of the many fertility centers that are available for help, some research is in order. You should determine how long the clinic has been open, how long the doctors have been there, what types of procedures are proffered, if age is a factor, the costs involved, and how willing they are to answer your questions. These are just a few questions that you should ask before considering engaging the services of one of the fertility clinics in your area.
The doctors and staff at The Center of Reproductive Medicine (CORM) are the reason why we are one of the leading fertility clinics in the Houston, Beaumont, and Bay Areas. Our focus is on an encouraging and nurturing experience for all of our fertility patients.
